Chioir & Organ - Organist: Dr Graham Bishop - Assistant Organist & Choir Mistress : Jenny Messenger
There has been a choir in the church for as long as anybody can remember. The photos in the vestry are testament to this. The choir is very enthusiastic, and together they really enhance the Sunday services providing support for the congregation, introducing new music, singing anthems and generally enjoying their music. They also sing at other church services, including weddings, funerals and sometimes baptisms too. New choir members are always welcome – ability to read music is an advantage, but dedication to practising and attending regularly are also important. The choir practice on Thursday evenings at 8.00 pm in the church.
The organ itself is a beautiful old instrument which produces the most wonderful sounds. When the player ‘pulls out all the stops’ it makes the church rafters shake!
An organ of this type, built in the 19th century, is familiar to many church organists today, with its 2 keyboards and full pedal-board. It is a simple instrument with a refined and elegant sound. It has a great range of dynamic effects, ability to make crescendo and diminuendo by use of its 'swell box', and provides a traditional backing to the hymns and music at church services.
Young In Spirit is The Bridge's contemporary Christian Pop/Rock group, who perform modern worship songs (normally less than ten years old) by writers such as Brenton Brown and Paul Baloche.
Young In Spirit regularly appear at Café Church (The Bridge's Fresh Expressions style service) held in The Memorial Hall and also play at other church services and events, other churches, and non church concerts.
Spirit 2 is a group of musicians and singers that has evolved since 2010 as a spin-off from The Bridge Church group Young in Spirit. We play at Cafe services in the Memorial Hall where we take the responsibility of leading musical worship very seriously.
