Choir & Organ - Organist: Dr Graham Bishop - Assistant Organist: Jenny Messenger
There has been a choir in the church for as long as anybody can remember. The photos in the vestry are testament to this. The choir is very enthusiastic, and together they really enhance the Sunday services providing support for the congregation, introducing new music, singing anthems and generally enjoying their music. They also sing at other church services, including weddings, funerals and sometimes baptisms too. New choir members are always welcome, the ability to read music is an advantage (although not essential) but dedication to practising and attending regularly is important. The choir practice on Thursday evenings at 7.00 pm in the church.
The organ itself is a beautiful old instrument which produces the most wonderful sounds. When the player ‘pulls out all the stops’ it makes the church rafters shake! An organ of this type, built in the 19th century, is familiar to many church organists today, with its 2 keyboards and full pedal-board. It is a simple instrument with a refined and elegant sound. It has a great range of dynamic effects, ability to make crescendo and diminuendo by use of its 'swell box', and provides a traditional backing to the hymns and music at church services.
Spirit 2 was formed in 2010 out of a desire to support the Café Church worship at The Bridge with live music. The band welcomes young and old with little to no experience, but with plenty of enthusiasm and we have a mix of ages.
Many of the band members had never played instruments or sung in a group; yet through a lot of hard work and practice Spirit 2 is now the recognised worship band for the Café Church Service.
The bands ethos is about constantly striving to the next challenge and this gives us aims that allow us to encourage each other and the young talent that we have within our church; and helps to enhance the worship and glorify God.
We are always open to welcoming new members, so please speak with any of the band members on a Sunday morning.
